My Motivation
​
Since middle school, I have enjoyed celebrating my cultural heritage with the asian affinity group at my all-girls school. However, it was the school cultural fair, which brought together all the racial affinity groups, that really opened my eyes. While sampling each other’s foods, we shared stories about our families and traditions. Despite our different social and cultural backgrounds, there was meaningful overlap in how culture shaped our identities and sense of belonging. In fact, empowerment does not come from competing with one another but from supporting each other’s growth. This common cause and sense of shared purpose inspired me to found the Empower Girls of Color (EGC) initiative.

Through EGC, I am committed to building a supportive and empowering community where girls of color uplift one another, share their voices, and grow together.
