In this episode of DEI After 5, host Sacha Thompson focuses on empowering women of color in leadership roles by interviewing Analiza Quiroz Wolf, a U.S. Air Force Captain, Fortune 200 Company Brand Manager, CEO of a $30 million nonprofit, and author of The Myths of Success: A Woman of Color’s Guide to Leadership. The video addresses the scrutiny and bias these women face while offering strategies for navigating and overcoming these challenges to achieve success.

Analiza discusses the definitions of the Glass Cliff and Bamboo Ceiling. Women of color often do not recognize the cliffs and ceilings they are likely to encounter in their professional journeys. As women of color, we invest a great deal of ourselves into our roles, and it often feels unappreciated because our default is to deliver an A-plus job. We are expected to accomplish twice as much, or even a thousand times more, to prove ourselves. It is essential that we understand our boundaries and be ready to uphold our values.

The most interesting part for me is the problem of our interactions with other women of color. When we reach leadership positions, we must be prepared for the haters, often other women of color. Much of this arises from internalized supremacy culture. We tend to mimic what we observed growing up. Changing this mindset is very important for fostering a more collective and supportive women of color community.
